The department of Biological Sciences at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for two faculty positions at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the fields of Developmental and Cellular Biology. We seek innovative investigators who will lead internationally recognized, extramurally funded research programs focused on fundamental biological mechanisms underlying cellular and developmental responses to stressors. Priority will be given to candidates whose work complements established research clusters in the department, while intersecting with the biomedical interest of our pre-health focused students. We are particularly interested in researchers examining the molecular drivers of tolerance and resilience to metabolic, environmental, physiological, or infectious stressors. Ideal candidates will leverage cutting-edge genomic, molecular or genome editing technologies in genetically and experimentally tractable eukaryotic systems to uncover fundamental biological processes that enable living systems to withstand severe disturbance and affect health outcomes.

Research areas of interest include (but are not limited to) the impacts of stress on:

  • Mechanistic and systems physiology
  • Functional genomics or epigenomics
  • Comparative stress biology
  • Transnational target discovery from stress response pathways

Successful candidates will be expected to maintaining a rigorous, highly productive research program that synergizes with established research clusters on campus. As senior hires, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to mentorship of junior faculty, and will be instrumental to upcoming hiring initiatives. Major expectations of these positions including training and mentoring PhD students and undergraduate researchers, as well as contributing to the department's teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Biological Sciences spans perspectives from molecules to ecosystems, and we seek candidates whose research and teaching programs will find an intellectual home within this broad and integrative setting. The building housing our department is currently undergoing full renovation that will provide state of the art facilities supporting new and existing faculty.
