Whitworth University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Animal Physiology, beginning fall 2026. We seek a scholar with expertise in animal physiology who can also teach general biology, introductory genetics, and upper-division physiology. Preference will be given to candidates able to teach vertebrate anatomy, immunology, or neurobiology.

The Whitworth Biology Department emphasizes broad biological knowledge, collaborative student-faculty research, and engagement with the philosophical and practical implications of biology in society. Our faculty help students develop both the technical skills needed for graduate study and professional work, and the critical insight to examine life’s big questions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 21 credits annually across fall, Jan, and spring terms.
  • Courses include introductory biology, genetics, and upper-level physiology, with opportunities to teach anatomy, immunology, or neurobiology.
  • Advise students, pursue an active research agenda, and contribute to departmental and university service.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in animal physiology, immunology, neurobiology, or related field.
  • Personal commitment to the Christian faith and Whitworth’s mission as a Christian liberal arts university.
  • Effective communication in English.
  • Evidence of teaching promise or effectiveness.
  • Preferred: ability to teach anatomy, immunology, neurobiology, or introductory statistical applications (R).

Salary

Assistant Professor, 9-month contract. Hiring range: $59,572–$63,718, commensurate with experience (annual step increases for credited service).
