The Allen lab at Howard University in Washington, DC is seeking an enthusiastic and organized full-time Research Associate. We are a developmental biology group studying the genetic basis of reproduction using the nematode C. elegans as a model system. Our lab exploits the many advantages of C. elegans to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying reproduction. This scientific position is to explore the role of RNA binding proteins in C. elegans reproduction, in particular in physiological germline apoptosis. In addition to their individual scientific project, the applicant will assist in overseeing daily laboratory management and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. Finally, should the applicant desire, there will be available teaching opportunities within the Howard University Department of Biology for the applicant to receive experience and mentoring/training in pedagogical approaches. Applicants must have a doctoral degree or be ABD (all but degree). This job is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension for 2 additional years after successful completion of the initial year. Further years depend on availability of funding.
