The Department of Biology at Syracuse University (biology.syr.edu) is seeking an experienced microscopist to manage the Blatt BioImaging facility (https://thecollege.syr.edu/biology/biology-research/blatt-bioimaging-center/) and teach microscopy labs as a non-tenure track Professor of Practice. This is a fulltime, 12-month appointment from Jan 2023 - June 2025 with the possibility of renewal. Candidates should have extensive experience in light microscopy and strong people skills. In addition to teaching 3-4 formal undergraduate and/or graduate classes a year, the successful applicant will train, and collaborate with, users of the bioimaging facility, advise researchers on the most relevant microscopy techniques and data analysis methods for their experiments, perform experiments for grants and research publications, manage the instruments and their service and maintenance, oversee billing of machine usage and collaborate with other faculty to write grants for new microscopes. They will also recruit new users of the facility and arrange microscopy workshops for graduate students, postdocs and faculty. The Blatt BioImaging Center currently serves users from across the Syracuse University campus and from neighboring institutions and local companies. Professors of Practice are full members of the departmental and university community and are eligible to vote on department, college and university decisions excluding those related to tenure-track faculty hiring, promotion and tenure decisions.
