As part of a four-faculty line expansion, the Department of Biology at SLU is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Developmental Biology at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting in the 2023-24 academic year. The Department welcomes applications from candidates, particularly those from diverse and traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, whose research addresses fundamental questions in areas including, but not limited to: stem cell biology, cell fate specification, aging, growth and regeneration, developmental genomics, evolution and development, and models of developmental disorders.

The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program that engages and trains graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students and undergraduate students (B.A. and B.S.) in modern approaches to developmental biology research. The new faculty member will contribute to the teaching mission of the Biology Department in developmental and cell biology. Teaching responsibilities may include the development of undergraduate and graduate lecture and lab courses, as well as advising and mentoring of students.
Excellent facilities and a competitive start-up package are provided. Many opportunities for collaboration are available within our campus, with researchers at SLU’s nearby Health Science Center, and with researchers at other local universities.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in mentoring students from historically excluded groups, and who have a demonstrated commitment to racial justice.

Candidates must have:

  • A doctoral degree in developmental biology, cell biology, or related area, and postdoctoral experience.
  • The ability to work and engage effectively with diverse students and faculty.
  • A record of research productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
