The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Marine Animal Physiology. We seek candidates who take innovative approaches to address fundamental physiological questions regarding invertebrate or vertebrate marine animals. Example areas of research include (but are not limited to) neurophysiology, diving physiology, cardiac and respiratory physiology, osmotic and acid-base regulation, energy metabolism, biomineralization, biomechanics, symbiosis, immunology, and reproduction. A successful candidate would integrate physiology at the organismal level with molecular, biochemical and cellular biology, and/or environmental physiology. A comparative and evolutionary approach, as well as links to climate change biology, aquaculture, ecotoxicology or conservation are encouraged. We seek applicants with the expertise and desire to teach lecture- and laboratory-based physiology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  SIO is a world-renowned center of solid Earth, planetary, oceanographic, biological, and atmospheric research with over 200 principal investigators leading research programs.
