A fully funded postdoctoral position is available at the University of California, San Diego to study cardiovascular development and disease in human pluripotent stem cells, mouse and/or the zebrafish. Our laboratory uses cellular, molecular, genetic, and transgenic approaches to study the specification, patterning, and differentiation of cardiovascular progenitor cells that give rise to the heart and the vascular system. We have many projects related to understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved with cardiovascular development, regeneration, and disease. They include:
- Interrogating and identifying the diversity of cell-types that create cardiac and hematovascular derivatives using single cell genomic approaches.
- Discovering the epigenetic/chromatin dynamics that control the gene regulatory networks specifying these cardiovascular and blood lineages.
- Investigating the cellular processes that assemble these cardiovascular cell-types into functional cardiovascular structures to form the heart and vasculature.
- Exploring the differential regenerative capacity between vertebrates and exploiting these differences to promote mammalian regeneration.
- Studying human diseases using patient-derived human induced pluripotent stem cell models.
