The Siegrist Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia seeks a full time laboratory research technician to carry out tasks necessary to maintain lab operations and to work independently on a research project aimed at identifying dietary nutrient requirements to regulate neural stem cell proliferation during development. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and be passionate about science. A college degree (B.A. or B.S) in Biology or other field with some Biology course work is required, as well as previous laboratory experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following techniques, Drosophila husbandry and genetics, confocal or fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology techniques including, cloning and PCR. Lab responsibilities will include maintaining Drosophila fly stocks, training and managing undergraduate researchers, ordering lab supplies, fly food prep, dish washing, as well as other lab chores as needs arise.
