The Hopyan lab is seeking a Research Associate (RA). The lab is situated within the Program in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology in the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. Aside from the principal investigator and the RA, the lab consists of 3 PhD students, one postdoctoral fellow, a part-time animal husbandry technician, and an administrative assistant. The primary duties of the RA will be to perform independent research projects, assist trainees, and manage the day-to-day running of the lab. The focus of the lab is morphogenesis with an emphasis on how signalling pathways regulate the movements and biophysical properties of cells to shape tissues such as the limb bud and branchial arches of the mouse embryo. The projects involve multidisciplinary collaboration between biological and physical investigators. Methods employed include mouse genetics, live embryo imaging, and genetically encoded and physical tools to measure the properties and forces generated by embryonic tissues and cells. A background in developmental biology is preferred, and some experience with biophysics would be advantageous.
