Postbaccalaureate Researcher

National Cancer Institute Center for Cancer Research

Frederick, MD

Posted 2/27/2024

The Davies lab at NCI-Frederick is recruiting a Postbaccalaureate Fellow to support primary research projects and tool development in an emerging laboratory model system, the highly regenerative flatworm Macrostomum lignano. We use these tractable research animals to study the regulation and behavior of adult pluripotent stem cells in different postnatal contexts, including tissue homeostasis and regeneration. Ongoing projects seek to understand the lineage repertoire of adult pluripotent stem cells and how cell fate decisions are made. For more information about the Davies lab visit: https://ccr.cancer.gov/staff-directory/erin-l-davies

The postbaccalaureate researcher will work collaboratively with senior lab members to:1) maintain the Macrostomum breeding colony and transgenic stocks, 2) establish new transgenic lines, 3) conduct independent experiments to test hypotheses about cell fate determination and lineage differentiation programs.

Applicants must possess good organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The applicant should desire to work as part of a collaborative research team. The Postbaccalaureate Fellow will be closely mentored by Dr. Davies and senior lab members in animal husbandry, research practices, laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, oral and written communication of their work, and professional development. A two-year commitment required, with the expectation that the Postbaccalaureate Fellow will apply to graduate programs during year two of their appointment.
