The Accorsi Lab in the Departments of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher interested in investigating the visual system development and regeneration using a novel, highly regenerative model organism, the apple snail Pomacea canaliculata.
Our group studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development and regeneration of sensory organs, their evolution and their integration with the central nervous system. We use cutting-edge transcriptomic, imaging and genome-editing approaches to dissect cell lineages and gene regulatory networks, with the overarching goal of understanding the complete regeneration of complex vertebrate-like eyes.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong track record of rigorous research experience and a desire for continued scientific and professional growth. Applicants should have a strong background in developmental, regenerative, molecular and/or cellular biology, or related fields. Experience with single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq or other high-throughput datasets is advantageous but not required.
The successful candidate will: 1. design and execute experiments and analyze data independently or collaboratively, 2. stay current with relevant literature, 3. clearly communicate ideas and results in lab meetings, conferences, publications and grant applications, 4. contribute to mentoring and training of junior lab members, 5. assist with laboratory maintenance and animal husbandry, 6. have open and honest conversations with the PI and other lab members.
