9:00--9:30 Welcome and Refreshments
 
9:30--10:00 Presentation of the Thomas Jefferson University's Science Outreach Program: "Bringing Live Science to the Community"
 
10:00--11:30 Demonstration of experiments to do with the program and in the classroom:
     
  Developmental Biology: Live Zebrafish and Drosophila experiments focusing on developmental stage, and dominant and recessive genes
     
  Molecular Genetics: DNA extraction, Gel Electrophoresis (DNA Fingerprinting), and DNA Sequencing with links to the Human Genome Project
     
  Cancer Research: Li-Fraumeni Gene, Transformed Cells, and S. cerevisia RAD51 mutants
     
  Medicine in Todayâs World: HIV Detection and Sickle Cell Experiments
 
11:30--12:00 Wrap up and Teacher Share: All attendees are encouraged to share their successful classroom experiments. If you are interested in presenting a brief overview of your unit, please contact Jamie Schaefer via email to discuss the details.
 
12:00--1:00 Lunch will be provided for participants
