Report

 

The 17th International Congress for Developmental Biology was held jointly with meetings of the Society for Developmental Biology, Latin American Society for Developmental Biology and Sociedad Mexicana de Biología del Desarrollo, at the Cancun Center, Cancun, Mexico, June 16-20, 2013. 

 

The Scientific Program Committee was composed of Vivian Irish (SDB President), Claudio Stern (ISDB President, José Xavier Neto (LASDB President, Adriana Garay (SMBD President) and Juan Riesgo Escovar (SMBD).  The Organizing Committee members were Mario Zurita (SMBD and LASDB), Ida Chow (SDB) and Stefan Schulte-Merker (ISDB). The team was assisted locally by INTERMeeting.

Statistics


The total number of registrants was 724, with the following distribution: 333 principal investigators (PIs), 115 postdoctoral fellows, 253 students and 23 exhibitors.  The number of participants by country was: USA (363), Mexico (70), UK (55), Canada (34), Japan (30), Germany (18), Chile (18), China (15), France (11), Australia and Spain (9), Sweden (7), Brazil and Israel (6), Korea and The Netherlands (5), Belgium, Portugal and Switzerland (4), Argentina, Czech Republic, Puerto Rico and Singapore (3), Austria, Finland, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia (2), and one participant for each of the following countries: Bulgaria, Denmark, Grenada, India, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and Taiwan.


The total number of abstracts submitted was 592, of which 85 were selected for short talks and 488 scheduled for poster sessions.  Forty-eight invited speakers from around the world spoke at the two plenary sessions, 21 concurrent sessions and three education sessions.
