SDB Establishes Puerto Rico Research Relief Grant

10/5/2017

The Society for Developmental Biology is deeply concerned about the damage caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria to the laboratories of our colleagues in Puerto Rico.  In order to facilitate the continuation of research programs in those labs or at another temporary host location, SDB is offering relief grants of up to $10,000 to each lab.  Funds may be used for replacement of organisms, reagents, supplies, travel to host lab by PI or his/her trainees, core facility usage fees at host institution, etc. All principal investigators (PIs) at institutions located in Puerto Rico who are currently conducting research projects in developmental biology are eligible.  Priority will be given to PIs who are current SDB members.

Applications are now open and will be reviewed as received, on a rolling basis. The last date for receipt of applications, pending available funds, is December 31, 2017.  Please apply as soon as your plans are made. See application guidelines for more information.

How you can contribute:
Puerto Rico Relief Fund – Help us provide a higher level of assistance beyond SDB’s current capacity of $20,000.  Make a contribution to the Society for Developmental Biology Puerto Rico Relief Fund via SDB’s website.  On the donation page please click “Puerto Rico Relief Fund”.

Update! As of November 13, 2017 $7,344 has been raised by the community!  Thank you! Thank you as well to the PIs who have offered lab space and supplies.  Thanks to the contributions of SDB and the generous contributions of our members, we were able to accomodate all grant requests!  See the list of grant recipients here.
