Nifty Fifty Speaker: Marnie Halpern

Nominated by: Society for Developmental Biology

SDB member, Marnie Halpern from the Department of Embryology at the Carnegie Institute for Science in Baltimore, studies neural development in zebrafish. She has spearheaded the program “Women Serious About Science” with a public school in Baltimore to introduce young girls, particularly underrepresented minorities, to science.  This will be Halpern's third year as a Nifty Fifty Speaker for the USA Science & Engineering Festival.  In 2012, Halpern visited Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Ellicott City, Maryland.  Read more about that Nifty Fifty visit here.

The ‘Nifty Fifty’ are a group of noted professionals who will fan out across the Washington, DC area to speak about their work and careers at various middle and high schools.
